"Une nouvelle fonctionnalité de Google suscite la critique de plusieurs grands sites américains. Ce service, intégré depuis quelques jours au moteur permet aux internautes anglophones d'effectuer une recherche directement dans certains sites sans passer par leur propre outil de recherche.

Il se traduit par l'apparition d'un second formulaire de recherche situé dans la zone de résultats lorsqu'un internaute tape directement le nom d'un site. Chaque fois qu'un internaute effectue une recherche dans ce second formulaire, Google affiche une nouvelle page de résultats. Or cette page contient des liens sponsorisés en rapport avec la requête tapée, risquant de mettre en valeur des produits ou services concurrents. Un internaute recherchant "iPhone" sur le site Best Buy verra ainsi s'afficher en liens sponsorisés des offres d'autres marchands pour le téléphone d'Apple.

Outre-Atlantique, de nombreux sites protestent contre l'utilisation de leurs marques pour vendre des publicités en faveur de leurs concurrents. Par ailleurs, certains craignent que l'utilisation de Google pour chercher sur leur propre site entraîne une baisse de leur trafic."
